Ready notches four goals in SAC win over Wingate

Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte defeated Wingate University 20-3 this afternoon on the road to remain undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play at 3-0. The Royals are currently ranked 11th in the nation with a 7-3 overall record. Wingate falls to 2-3 on the season and 1-3 in the SAC with the loss.
 
Junior attacker Jena Ready led the Royals with four goals, while five other Royals scored two goals each. Freshman attacker Abigail Paulus led in assists with four. Brittany Larranaga led the Royals with six ground balls, while Brittany Barnwell led in draw controls with eight. Larranaga also tallied three caused turnovers to lead Queens. Goalkeeper Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal after playing 30 minutes and totaling four saves.
 
Following a goal from Ready 1:30 into action, the Bulldogs put two in the back of the net to lead 2-1 with 26:27 on the clock. Less than 30 seconds later Barnwell would win the draw control and zip the ball past Wingate's keeper to knot the game at 2-2 and spark a 13-0 run for the Royals. Queens scored its final two goals of the half man-down.
 
Swanson of Wingate ended her team's scoring drought with 2:35 left in the half to give the game a 14-3 score at the break.
 
Queens returned in the second half to score six goals while holding the Bulldogs scoreless.
 
The Royals outshot Wingate 40-18 and won the draw control battle, 15-10.
 
Laura Swanson scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs' offense. Jayda Lynch took the loss in goal after tallying 13 saves.
 
Queens returns home to Dickson Field to host Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
