Box Score 2 Greeneville, Tenn. – The Royals softball team travelled to Tusculum today to face off against the Pioneers in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. The Royals dropped game one 10-2, but rallied to take game two 2-1 to earn their first SAC win in school history.
Game One
In the first game the home squad was consistent in their ability to manufacture runs, while the Royals struggled to keep pace. Facing an early 5-0 disadvantage the Royals were not able to score until the third inning. Following a
Kaitlyn Bodine sacrifice fly and a
Whitney Britt RBI single the Royals hopped on the scoreboard with two runs.
But their offensive production was abruptly halted soon after, and the game was ended early when Tusculum scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the run rule.
The freshman duo of
Micaela Hayes and
Ashton Whitaker led the Royals with two hits apiece in the game.
Game two
Ashley Rollins was the story of game two, as the senior pitcher shut down the home team and only allowed one run on five hits. Supporting her offensively were Bodine with a solo home run in the first, and
Amanda Meade who hit the game winning double to score
Danielle McHugh in the sixth.
Taylor Rosenbalm led the Royals with two hits.
Following today's games the Royals are now 12-14 overall and 1-5 in conference play. They host Coker on Wednesday at Park Road Park.
