Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Queens softball team travelled to face former conference foe Pfeiffer today in an important early season regional matchup. After the dust had settled both teams had earned a victory with Pfeiffer taking game one 8-4, and the Royals countering with a 3-2 game two win.
Game One
The Royals were able to draw first blood in the opening inning with
Micaela Hayes crossing the plate on a fielder's choice. The Falcons countered and took 2-1 lead into the fourth inning, until senior
Kaitlyn Cheek went yard in consecutive innings to give the Royals a 4-2 lead after five.
But the resilient home squad rallied and picked up six more runs in the next two innings and held off the Royals to earn the victory.
Cheek led the Royals with two hits and three RBI's, with
Emma Schultz adding two hits of her own for the Royals.
Game Two
In came two the Royals found themselves in another hole late in the game down 2-1. But in the sixth
Jasmyn Lindsay stepped to the plate and singled to right to drive in one and even the score. With the speedster
Teale Moran on the bases the Royals were able to take a decisive lead in later in the sixth when the freshman scored on a wild pitch.
Taylor Rosenbalm and
Emma Schultz led the Royals with two hits apiece, and Lindey McCurry went all seven innings in the circle giving up only on earned run on five hits.
The Royals are now 6-4 on the season and travel to Greenville, S.C. to participate in the Mid South Classic this weekend.
