MARS HILL, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte tennis teams travelled to Mars Hill for their second match against a conference opponent in two days. Both teams were able to utilize their momentum from yesterday's wins and earn victories, with the men taking their match by the score 8-1 and the women 7-2.
Men
The men opened up play with three wins in the doubles portion of the match, and appeared to carry momentum throughout the afternoon. Earning victories for the Royals were the pairings of
Per-Erik Soler and
Jules Athalis (8-4),
Andre Bafume and
Ole-Jacob Meum (8-6), and
Ignacio Casali and
Lucas Okita (8-2).
The Royals only dropped one match on the singles side of the match, and won all but two matched in two sets. Showing their skill for the Royals were Casali (6-7, 6-4, 10-8), Athalis (6-3, 6-0) Bafume (6-2, 6-4), Meum (6-0, 6-0), and
Zachary Williams (6-1, 6-7, 11-9).
The men now stand at 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in SAC play.
Women
The women also earned three hard fought points in the doubles portion of the match. Picking up crucial points for the Royals were the pairings of
Christina Rustscheff and
Melissa Laing (8-6),
Claire Hamilton and
Jaclyn Rock (6-3), and
Farina Rafiq and
Jessee Clauson (9-8).
Up three following the doubles, the Royals picked up four more wins in the singles portion of the match. Earning victories for the Royals were Rustscheff (6-2, 6-1), Rock (6-3, 6-0), Clauson (6-2, 6-3), and
Paige Ernest (6-4, 6-2).
Following today's match the Royals are now 5-0 and 2-0 in SAC play. Both teams travel to Wingate this Thursday.
