Queens falls in day one of the South Atlantic Conference versus Conference Carolinas Challenge

Box Score Charlotte, NC - Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team battled the Barton College Bulldogs in day one of the South Atlantic Conference versus Conference Carolinas Challenge falling 68-43 to the Bulldogs at home on Friday, November 14, 2014.

Lacey Singletary climbed into double-digits taking 13 points in the game in addition to two steals and six rebounds. The Royals shot 60% from the three-point range in the first half while maintaining 66.7% from the free-throw line throughout the game. McKell Oliverio went 100% from the line, making 4-4 free-throws. Nikki Gleason would make four out of her six free-throws. The difference in the game came in the form of turnovers as the Royals only forced 12 out of Barton while giving up 28 themselves.

Barton found Kaila Lea for 19 points in the game. She accompanied this with five rebounds and four steals. Alexis Johnson fell shortly her teammate with 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Tiffany Webster grabbed six additional steals to partner 14 points. The Bulldogs would make 38 of their points from in the paint.

Barton took the first points as Lea hit a three-pointer just 45 seconds into the game. Sheridan Pressley put up three points for the Royals to give them their first points of the game (5-3). Barton held possession taking an 11-3 lead before Oliverio broke the dry spell at the 15 minute mark with one from outside the arch (11-6). Queens battled hard to find themselves three points off the lead as Pressley made another from long range (14-11) at the 13 minute mark. Singletary took over for the Royals marching the team to 17 points with two made free-throws to add to back-to-back baskets (25-17) before Pressley and Carmen Richardson found room in the paint to bring the Royals to a 27-22 score in Barton's favor. Queens broke for half tailing the Bulldogs 34-25.

Gleason put the first points on the board in the second half making two free-throw less than a minute into play. With time expiring on the shot clock, Abby Pettit made a long two to bring the game to 41-30 (17:21). Barton stepped-up on defensive, keeping the Royals from a basket and forcing them to make shots from the line. Queens rose to that challenge shooting making 10 free-throw shots in the second half. However, the Bulldogs forced the game to close with a 68-43 score in their favor.

Queens hosts day two of the South Atlantic Conference versus Conference Carolinas Challenge tomorrow against Mount Olive.
