Box Score ANDERSON S.C. – The Queens women's basketball team travelled to Anderson to take on the 9-8 Trojans today. The Royals were struggled to find their offensive rhythm, and eventually fell to the home side by the score 74-.61
The Trojans jumped to an early 9-3 lead just three minutes in, forcing an early timeout for the Royals. Queens was able to regroup and following a run was able to tie the game at 11 apiece off an
Erin Brundage jumper.
From there the teams exchanged points, with Queens eventually taking a 21-18 lead off five straight points by
Shonice Pettaway, but Anderson countered quickly with a three pointer to tie the game at 21-21. Unable to prevent the bigs of Anderson from controlling the glass the Royals allowed the Trojans to go on a run late in the half to give the home team a 36-29 lead.
Much like the first half the Royals struggled to find their shot early in the second half, and Anderson was able to grow the lead to 10. But, the Royals refused to give in and following a Brundage three pointer the deficit was cut to five.
The Trojans were able to prevent any more bleeding, and behind the hot shooting of Leslie Woods were able to build the largest lead of the game with the score at 64-50 with three minutes left.
The Royals only shot 42% on the day, and struggled on the glass being out rebounded 46-23 with Anderson picking up 20 offensive boards.
Nikia Squire and Pettaway led the Royals with18 points apeice.
The Royals are now 5-11 on the year and 4-8 in conference play. Queens hosts Newberry Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
