Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team is off to its first 2-0 start since the 1999 season after defeating Clayton State University on the road in double overtime, 2-1. Clayton State now sits at 0-1-1 on the season.

"I could not be more proud of every member of this program," Queens head coach Katie Talbert stated. "The team has contributed their all since the beginning of preseason and they deserve the wins. Competing with and beating two Peach Belt Conference teams is exactly what we need to prepare for the South Atlantic Conference."

Sophomore Logan Vitale scored the golden goal 1:39 into the second overtime period from five yards out. Freshman forward Kelli Gottry was awarded the assist on the play.

Clayton State went ahead with a goal in the 49th minute scored by Melissa Hetherington after a scoreless first half that saw a combined 14 total shots.

The Royals were able to respond late, tying the game up with exactly three minutes to play in regulation when freshman forward Caitlyn Rodrigues fired the ball into the net from seven yards out after receiving a pass from Vitale.

Goalkeeper Jessyca Young tallied six saves to collect her second win in the net on the year.

"After the loss to Clayton State last year, this exemplifies the growth and leadership we have built with our united team," Talbert added. "The players deserve this feeling and are excited for the next challenge on Wednesday.

The Royals will be at home for the first time this season hosting Limestone College at the Queens Sports Complex on September 11 at 5 p.m.
