Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team walked away from Dickson Field with a 1-0 win over Coker College this evening. With the home win, the Royals (6-1-2) are now 2-0-2 in the South Atlantic Conference leaving the Coker Cobras at 1-7-0 on the season and 0-4 in the league.Â
Â
The Royals started off the first half with heavy pressure as the offense kept the ball on Coker's side of the field. Queens would outshoot the Cobras 12-3, but eight saves from Liz Morris, in the net for Coker, kept the score 0-0 for the first half.
Â
The amount of pressure the Royals laid on the Cobras finally paid off in the second half. In the 55th minute, crossing the ball to the far post, freshman midfielder
Jill Clark watched her ball land in the back corner of the net giving Queens a 1-0 lead.
Â
Coker responded increasing their intensity and aggression for the remainder of the second half looking to equalize the match. Their best chance would come in the 81
st when Cobras forward Bailey Van Order made an impressive sneaky shot on the Royals. Unfortunately for the Cobras, Seretis did a great job scrambling to save the shot.
Â
During the remainder of the game the Royals kept their defense tight while the offense kept connection with the ball, looking to score once more. Though they weren't able to net another, the back line was successful in limiting shot attempts for the Cobras only allowing one more from the visitors which would go wide.
Â
The Royals outshot Coker 21-6 and won 12 corner kicks to the Cobras' one. Seretis collected her first win of the year in goal. Morris of Coker tallied 12 saves on the night.
Â
The Royals will play at Newberry College at 1:30 p.m., on October 5. They will return to Dickson Field to play Converse College on October 15 at 6 p.m. Â
