MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team continued its spectacular start to the 2013 season picking up a commanding 5-0 road win over Shorter University. The Royals' record improves to 4-0 on the season, while Shorter drops to 1-3 on the season.
Freshman midfielder Caitlyn Rodrigues led the Royals recording her first hat trick in her collegiate career. The Mooresville, N.C., native scored all three of her goals in the second half to bring her point total on the season to 10. Rodrigues currently leads her team and the SAC in goals and points on the season.
The Royals were able to head into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead following goals from freshman forward Lydia Drakeford and junior midfielder Diamond Russos. Drakeford scored what would eventually become the game winner in the 29th minute on an assist from senior forward Brooke Foil.
Foil would go on to finish the game with two assists after picking up her second on Rodrigues' second goal of the game. Also collecting assists on the day were Sydney Michelin and Ashley Osiecki.
Junior goalkeeper Jessyca Young tallied her fourth win on the season in the goal after notching two saves. It was the second shutout of the season for the Wake Forest, N.C., native.
Queens will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pfeiffer University to complete the Bobcats Shootout.
