FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team opened ASUN Conference play with a 3-0 setback against Florida Gulf Coast University on Thursday evening at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The Royals move to 1-7-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 4-1-3 overall and 1-0-0 in the ASUN.

Turning Point
FGCU came out attacking and wasted little time finding the back of the net. Just under three minutes into the match, Keira Morgan connected with Kate Friday, who sent an attempt from 25 yards out into the back-left corner to give the Eagles an early 1-nil advantage. Less than five minutes later, Kaitlin Gabelman doubled the lead with a left-footed strike into the upper corner. Despite the early deficit, Queens goalkeeper Emily Protiva kept the Eagles from extending their advantage for the remainder of the first half, recording five saves as the Royals entered the break trailing 2-0. FGCU added its third and final goal in the 59th minute when Morgan found the back of the net off an assist from Taylor Latini. Queens nearly answered less than two minutes later when Juliana Hunter placed an attempt on target, but Eagles goalkeeper Madara Bome came up with the save to preserve the shutout.
