Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Royals softball team was on the road again today as they travelled to King University to take on the Tornado. Queens dropped the first game 2-1, but battled back with an extra inning 6-3 win.
Game one
The Royals outhit the Tornado in game one 8-6, but were unable to score one run in third off a
Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) RBI triple. Pacing the Royals with multiple hits were
Megan Lathbury (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central),
Samantha Martinez (Bordentown, New Jersey, Bordentown Regional High School), and Britt who all finished with two apiece.
Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) went five innings in the circle, and only allowed two runs on six hits.
Game two
The Royals started game two with a strong first inning where they picked up two runs on a monster
Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) omerun. The Royals added another in the third off a
Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) double.
King was able to equalize in the fourth, and the teams spent the next three innings deadlocked. With the game forced into the extra eight inning the slugger Cheek stepped to the plate and blasted another two run home run to give the Royals a 5-3 lead. Still not satisfied the Royals were able to pick up another run on a
Emily Poulton (Temecula, Calif., Great Oak).
Bodine also turned in four innings of relief from the circle, and picked up the win while only allowing four hits.
Following today's games the Royals are 14-19 overall, and 4-7 in conference play.
