Winning Streak snapped at Conference Tournament

Box Score

Burlington, N.C - The Royals Softball team travelled to Burlington, N.C. on a nine game winning streak. After receiving multiple awards at last night's banquet it was time to get back on the field as the Royals looked to carry momentum into the Conference Carolinas tournament.

Softball Game 1

The Royals nine game winning streak was halted in the first game of the Conference Carolinas tournament. Coker scored three runs in the first inning as Royals starter Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) struggled early on. Coker extended their lead to 4-0 in the third inning before the Royals offense came alive.

Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) led the comeback with two hits including a homerun in the third inning. In the fourth inning the Royals scored three runs to cut the lead to 5-4 as newly crowned conference player of the year Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) had a two RBI single. That was as close as the Royals would get in this game. The comeback fell short as Coker added a run in the sixth and seventh for the final score of 7-4.

Britt led the Royals with two RBI. Bodine came on in relief to finish the game in the circle pitching four and a third innings allowing two runs. The Royals would face Erskine in an elimination game later on in the day

Softball Game 2

The Royals elimination game vs. Erskine was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the second inning. At the point of suspension the Royals had the bases loaded and two outs in the inning. The game is tied 1-1 and play will resume Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
