Softball takes two on senior day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the final game of the regular season the Royals softball team hosted the Lees-McRae Bobcats. Following a ceremony honoring the Royals three seniors, Queens' offense jumped to life and took the first game in five innings 8-0, and followed that with a 3-2 victory in the second game.
 
Game 1
 
Starting the game in the circle, and quickly asserting her dominance was freshman Lyndey McCurry (Commerce, Ga., Hebron Christian). She went all five innings and only allowed one hit while striking out three.
 
Offensively the Royals were led by Robyn Levine (Raleigh, N.C., Enloe) who went two for three with two RBIs. Also finishing the game with two runs batted in were Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) on a bunt double, and Noemi Rodriguez (Miami, Fla., G. Holmes Braddock Senior ).
 
The Royals combined for eight hits in the game, and finished the shortened game in just over an hour.
 
Game 2
 
In game two it was the senior Rodriguez who started the festivities with a monster home run in the second inning. The Royals added two more runs in the third when Emily Poulton (Temecula, Calif., Great Oak) drove a single up the middle to score Britt, and then was able to score off a Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) double.
 
Lees-McRae did add two runs in the seventh, but the Royals held on to win 3-2. Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) went all seven innings for the Royals in the circle, and only gave up one earned run on seven hits.
 
Following today's action the Royals are 22-19 overall, and 13-7 in conference play. The Royals travel to Burlington, N.C. Friday to participate in the conference tournament.
