Great first half leads Queens to conference win

Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (3-3) extended their conference record to 2-0 after picking up a 12-8 win this afternoon at Mount Olive College (1-3). The Trojans drop to 0-1 in league play with the loss.

Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va., Bishop Ireton) got the momentum on the Royals' side at the start of play with a goal not even a minute into action. The Royals would go on to score six more goals to Mount Olive's zero by the 16:05 mark to lead 7-0. Riann Daziel would net the Trojans' first goal at 13:44, and they would net three more before the end of the period. Queens headed into the break with a 10-4 lead. They were led by Maggie Masters (Annapolis, Md., Annapolis) who recorded a hat trick and an assist.

Mount Olive would go on to net four more goals in the second to Queens' two, but the Royals' offensive play in the first proved to be too much for the Trojans to overcome as Queens took the victory.

Masters and Barnwell led the Royals with four points apiece, while Jena Ready (Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Catholic) and Caitlin Miller (Bethany Beach, Del., Worcester Prep) each recorded three points. Danielle Horoschak (Jarrettsville, Md., North Harford) took the win in goal after collecting four saves.

Daziel led the Trojans with three goals, while Michelle Scannell and Alysha Kulka each netted two. Sarah Snell totaled nine saves in the net.
