FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – After a month of rain and poor weather Queens women's tennis team was able to take to the court in a match up against regional opponent Fayetteville State University. The Royals were able to shake off any rust, and took the match by the score of 5-0.
In doubles the women were spearheaded by the number one pairing of
Christina Rustscheff (Toronto, Canada, Bayview Glen) and
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) who took their match by the score of 8-1.
Joining them with doubles wins were the strong pairings of
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) and
Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) by the score of 8-0 and
Paige Earnest (Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Catholic) and
Farina Rafiq (Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, Cobequid Educational Centre) who also blanked their opponent 8-0.
In singles the Royals' play was highlighted by super sophomores Ernest and Rafiq., who both won by the score of 6-0, 6-0. From the beginning of their matches both showed their prowess, and why the future of Queens tennis is so bright.
The Royals play next when the men and women host Brevard College on March 13. All of the Royals' home matches are played at Freedom Park.
