Royals drop two games to Georgia College and State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team concluded the 2013 Bobcat Blast with a doubleheader again host Georgia College and State today. In the first game the Royals struggled offensively and lost 9-1, and in the second they battled back and forth with the Bobcats before dropping the game 6-4.

The Royals struggled against the command of opposing pitcher Abi LeRoy, who went all five innings while only allowing three hits. Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) had Queens' lone highlight in the game with a solo homerun in the fifth that accounted for the one Royals run in the scorebook.

Game two of the doubleheader was a much more balanced affair with the Royals and Bobcats exchanging runs throughout the game. Down one in the bottom half of the young season it was freshman Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) who came up with one of the highlights of the young season when she sent the game to extra innings on a one out single to left. But, it was not to be as the Bobcats scored two runs in the eights, and the Royals could not counter.

Emma Schultz (Silver Spring, Md., Paint Branch) paced the Royals with two hits, and Miranda Cummings (Statesville, N.C., West Iredell) showed off her power with a three run homerun in the first. Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) went the whole way for the Royals in the circle, and only gave up five earned runs in eight innings.

The Royals currently are 1-3, and return to action this Thursday when they host Catawba.
