Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Royals softball team was able to take the diamond today following the cancelation of Saturday's games due to rain in a tournament hosted by Armstrong Atlantic. In game one of action the Royals struggled at the plate and were defeated 14-0 in five innings by Wingate. But, Queens did rebound and took regional powerhouse Armstrong Atlantic to eight innings before losing 5-4.
In game one the Wingate Bulldogs offense pounced on the Royals' pitchers, and picked up 12 hits to the Royals two. The Bulldogs had four players with multiple hits, and forced the shortened game due to the run rule in the fifth.
In game two of the day freshmen pitchers
Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) and
Lyndey McCurry (Commerce, Ga., Hebron Christian) limited their hosts to just nine hits in eight innings with just three earned runs crossing the plate. The Royals led the game 4-0 after four innings, but Armstrong Atlantic game roaring back with five straight runs before winning the game in extra innings on a single up the middle.
The Royals had four hits in the game with two of them being solo homeruns in the third by
Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) and Bodine. Britt also paced the Royals with two RBIs.
Royals are currently 6-9 and travel to Greeneville, Tenn. for the Mid South Classic this upcoming weekend.
