Royals drop game to Barton on the road

Box Score WILSON, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte dropped a road game this evening to Barton College, 74-50. The Royals overall record sits at 13-10, while their conference record is 11-8. The Bulldogs now hold a 17-6 overall record and a 16-3 league record.
 
Melissa Thomas (Havelock, N.C., Havelock) and Tia Hudgins (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) led the Royals with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Hudgins also pulled down 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) and Shanel Sweet (Land O'Lakes, Fla., Land O' Lakes) each scored eight points, while Shatonya Hardy (Fayetteville, N.C., E.E. Smith) led the Royals with six assists.  
 
After shooting just 25 percent from the floor in the opening half, the Royals found themselves down 34-24 at the break. An 8-0 run brought the Royals to within one of the Bulldogs, 25-24, just before the final media. However, Barton would close the half with a 9-0 run to keep the lead.
 
Scoring droughts for the Royals in the second would allow the Bulldogs to string together runs eventually giving them as much as a 24 point lead before the final horn sounded.
 
The Royals finished the game with a 27.3 shooting percentage, and they were outscored 40-20 in the paint by the Bulldogs.
 
Shante Neal led Barton with 24 points, while Nyeshea Willie scored 19 points. Elaine Morgan and Janae Jackson led under the glass with 14 and 11 rebounds. Morgan also dished out 11 assists.
 
The Royals will host North Greenville University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
