Box Score 2 HICKORY, N.C. – The Queens softball team travelled to Lenoir-Rhyne today where they split a doubleheader with the Bears. In game one the Royals struggled to get their offense going and picked up an 8-3 loss, but in the second the Royals caught fire and beat the home team 11-2.
In game one the Royals were outhit 8-3, and did not have a run cross home plate until 
Amanda Meade (Bristow, Va., Osbourn Park) crossed the plate in the fifth. The only other highlight for the Royals was a solo blast by 
Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) in the sixth.
In game two it was freshman 
Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) in the circle who kept the Bears' batters at bay for seven innings. Bodine allowed only two runs on five hits, and struck out five Lenoir-Rhyne players.
Offensively the Royals showed off their potent offense with twelve hits, and three or more runs scored in three innings. Leading the way for the Royals was a stellar 4-4 performance at the plate by freshman 
Miranda Cummings (Statesville, N.C., West Iredell).
Cummings also had five RBIs in the game and showcased her power in the fifth inning with a three run home run to center field. 
Noemi Rodriguez (Miami, Fla., G. Holmes Braddock Senior ) also showed her power with another Royals' dinger in the seventh. 
Megan Lathbury (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central) added two hits, and 
Emma Schultz (Silver Spring, Md., Paint Branch).  Rodriguez, and Cummings all had two runs scored in the game.
The Royals are 6-7 overall and play in a tournament hosted by Armstrong Atlantic this Saturday and Sunday.
