Pitching paces Royals' sweep of Pacers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team hosted the Pacers of USC-Aiken in a doubleheader today. The Royals were able to pick up two extra inning wins in a day that was highlighted by strong defensive and pitching performances by both teams.

Despite the offense only picking up three hits in the first game, the Royals took the victory in the eighth inning by the score of 1-0.The clear standout performance was by pitcher Lyndey McCurry (Commerce, Ga., Hebron Christian) who went eight innings and only gave up two hits to pick up her second career win.

Following McCurry shutting down the Pacers in the top of the eighth, the Royals were able to capitalize on the extra inning rules when Emily Poulton (Temecula, Calif., Great Oak) scored from second on an error by USC-Aiken.

In the second game the Royals' offense once again struggled with only two hits, but the day was highlighted by a Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) homerun that tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth. Forcing the game into extra innings the Royals once again won the game 3-2 in the bottom of the eight when Robyn Levine (Raleigh, N.C., Enloe) scored on a wild pitch.

The game was once again was highlighted by strong pitching as Kaitlyn Bodine (Scottsville, Va., Monticello) and Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) combined for eight innings where only two runs crossed the plate.

The Royals currently stand at 4-5, and return to action the 17th when they travel to Carson-Newman College.
