Queens volleyball goes one and one on first day of tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Volleyball opened play in the Pfeiffer Falcons Tournament today by going 1-1. The Royals started off against Lenoir-Rhyne is a match that went all five sets and ended in a Queens loss. The Royals were able to rebound from the loss and beat Winston-Salem State in three sets to conclude their initial day of the tournament.
 
In the matchup against Lenoir-Rhyne the Royals won the first two sets, but were unable to hold off, the surging Bears in the final three sets. During two hour match all five sets were tightly contested as the teams finished no more than three points apart in each set.
 
Offensively Keri Kemp (Lake Mary) led the way with 22 kills and was joined in double digits by Anna Gibbs (Hickory)Ashlyn Dibrell (Lamar), and Elizabeth Bialkowski (Millbrook)McKenzie Martin (Stratford) set a new high in her young career as she had  55 assists in the match. Defensively the Royals were led by libero Jocelyn Kellinger (Cave Spring) with 25 digs and she was joined by the sure handed defense of Brittney Barren (Blaine), Martin, Sarah Malpass (Gainesville), and Sarah Malpass (Gainesville), all of whom were in the double digits in digs.
 
In the second game the Royals were able to take the sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 27-25. The Royals were led in kills by Bialkowski with six, and Lindsey Everhart (McNicholas) and Kemp with five. Martin once again led in assists with 24, and Kellinger picked up 13 digs to lead the team again.
 
The Royals currently stand at 2-4 on the season, and take on Catawba College tomorrow at 3pm to conclude their tournament.
