Queens falls in double OT game with Valdosta State

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With 2:13 to play, a game forced into double overtime by the Royals slipped out of their hands as Valdosta State University's Abbi Edwards shot a deflected ball into the net giving the visiting Blazers a 2-1 victory. Queens University of Charlotte drops to 2-5 with the loss, while Valdosta State remains undefeated on the season at 5-0.

Today's game was one where the Royals' defense battled hard holding a Blazers offense that took 19 shots to one goal in regulation.

Valdosta State's goal came in the 20th minute when Rebecca Miller ran up on a ball blocked by Queens' keeper, and blasted it into an empty net. Queens was able to answer in the 40th when Diamond Russos (Raleigh, N.C., Sanderson) met a corner served into the box by Mary Stringini (Shorewood, Minn, Minnetonka) heading it into the goal for the 1-1 tie.

In the second, the Blazers continued firing shots from all over the field as Queens' back continued to make it difficult for them to get clear looks. With neither team netting a goal at the end of regulation, the game was forced into extra minutes.

In the first overtime, Valdosta State was able to get two shots off to Queens' zero, but neither was on frame. The only shot in the second overtime came at 2:13 when Edwards of the Blazers collected a deflected pass and placed it in the net just out of goalkeeperEmily Mager's (Lawrenceburg, Ky., Anderson County) reach.

Mager split time in the net with Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury), and they combined for a total of seven saves.

Queens will return to the turf on Saturday, September 22 at 5 p.m. to take on Lees-McRae College.
