Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A penalty kick scored by the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish in the first minute of play proved to be costly as the Royals fell 2-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match. Queens University of Charlotte, ranked 10
th in the NSCAA Southeast drops to 3-2 on the year, while the Sailfish, ranked eighth in the NSCAA South remain undefeated at 5-0.
A foul in the box 36-seconds into the game put the Sailfish in position to take a penalty kick. Kenny Hogg stepped up for Palm Beach scoring his 11
th goal of the season, and giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Another goal would not come until the 32
nd minute when AJ Black of Palm Beach ran a ball into the net off of blocked shot. The Royals responded a few minutes later as
Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) received a ball from
Gersi Cilingiri (Berat, Albania, Wolfson) in a congested box, and fired it into the net. Chambers' goal brought the Royals to within one of the Sailfish, 2-1. That score would remain until the break.
In the second half, neither team could put the ball in the net despite a number of great shot attempts. Stops by keepers on each end kept the score at 2-1 until the final horn.
Both teams took 13 shots tonight, and Queens won the battle for corner kicks 10-4. Palm Beach Atlantic's Jonathan Strunk finished with seven saves in the net, while Queens'
John Rush (Jacksonville, Fla., Bolles) completed the night with three.
Queens returns to the turf on Saturday, September 22 against Lees-McRae at the Queens Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m.
