Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Queens University of Charlotte outscored the No. 15 Florida Southern Mocs 5-2 in the second half, but a six goal deficit in the first proved the be too much to overcome as the Royals fell 12-9. Queens' record now sits at 5-9 on the season, while the Mocs' record improved to 10-3.
Brittany Philip (Corning, N.Y., Corning East) led the Royals' scoring efforts with four goals.
Kenna Wick (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs) notched two goals, while three others tallied one apiece.
Danielle Horoschak (Jarrettsville, Md., North Harford) and
Chelsea Lancashire (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease) split time in the net tallying a combined total of 11 saves.
Megan Asper and Danielle DeLuca led the Mocs with three goals apiece. Lorianne Hoover and Caitlin Chase each collected two goals. Chase also notched three assists, while Asper dished out two. Katie Hammerer recorded nine saves in 60 minutes of play.
After a 1-1 tie with the clock sitting at 25:36, the Mocs put five goals in a row on the board en route to building their 10-4 halftime lead.
After trading points in the first four minutes of the second half, Wick scored back-to-back goals as Queens went on a 3-0 run bringing them to within three of the Mocs, 11-8. However, that was as close as the Royals would get as Chase notched a score on a free-position-shot giving Florida Southern a 12-8 lead with 7:50 to play. The Royals would not score again until Philip found the back of the net at 2:29.
Paige Fisher (Schwenksville, Pa., Perkiomen Valley) assisted on the play.
Queens was outshot 31-25 by the Mocs, and lost the battle for draw controls 13-10. The Royals scooped up 24 ground balls as a team.
Queens will host Converse on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for their annual Pink Game.
