Royals split with Trojans

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team returned to action today against division leading Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas showdown. The Royals were able to split with the Trojans to bring their record to 20-22, and 10-5 in conference play.

Queens took game one behind the strong pitching of Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) combined with the timely hitting of the offense. Dodge went the whole game and only gave up three hits and struck out nine in the game.

In the batter's box the freshmen pair of Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) and Amanda Meade (Bristow, Va., Osbourn Park) led the Royals. Britt was 3-4 in the game with two RBIs, and Meade added to the effort with a 2-3 performance. Noemi Rodriguez (Miami, Fla., G. Holmes Braddock Senior ) added power to the Royals' offense with a two run homer in the third to help give the Royals a 5-0 win.

Dodge started game two, and once again proved her prowess on the mound as she only gave up one run and six hits in seven innings. Unlike game one the Royals failed to produce enough offense and fell by the score 1-0. Britt did remain hot in the batter's box going 2-3 in game two.

The Royals return to action Tuesday, April 10 when they take on UNC-Pembroke at Park Road Park.
