Box Score 1 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team returned to their home field to take on Coker College today in a doubleheader. In a rain-shortened day the Royals were able to take the first game in five innings by the score of 10-0 before having the second game rained out with the Royals in the lead 4-2. The Royals improve to 15-19 on the year and 5-2 in the league, while the Cobras fall to 15-17 on the season and 8-9 in conference play.
In one of their most complete games of the year, the Royals were able to control the first game from the initial inning. They were led by senior
Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) who pitched all five innings and gave up zero runs on three hits. She was also able to match her tremendous performance in the circle with a 3-3 performance batting with one RBI.
Dodge was joined by
Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) and
Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ), who each went 2-3 in the game with multiple RBIs. It was Cheek who ended the game in five innings with a three run blast that cleared the left field fence with ease. Overall it was a day that showed the batting prowess of the entire team as the Royals collected 11 hits in the game, and consistently kept the opposing pitchers frustrated.
The Royals return to action on the 28
th of March at Pfeiffer University. Their doubleheader with Mount Olive tomorrow has been postponed.
