Double-doubles in the post help Royals dominate Knights

The Royals defeated St. Andrews 90-48.

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore forwards Sarah Myatt (Show Camp, N.C., Southern Alamance) and Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) dominated tonight's game each recording double-doubles in Queens University of Charlotte's win over St. Andrews University. The Royals defeated the Knights 90-48 improving their record to 5-7 in the league and 7-1 overall. St. Andrews has still yet to win a game this season as they fall to 0-12 in conference play and 0-19 on the year.

Myatt and Pettaway scored 23 points apiece. With 2:45 to play their points combined equaled St. Andrews' total points as a team. Myatt led under the glass grabbing 16 rebounds, while Pettaway snatched down 10. Melissa Thomas (Havelock, N.C., Havelock) added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Shatonya Hardy (Fayetteville, N.C., E.E. Smith) chipped in nine points.

Fifteen minutes into the first, the Royals began stringing together short runs en route to their 23-point halftime lead.

The Knights cut Queens' lead down to 18 early in the second, but the Royals answered with an 11-0 run to go up 63-34. Thomas knocked down back-to-back threes during the run. Abby Pettit (Apex, N.C., Cary Christian) gave Queens its largest lead of the game at 44 with 20-seconds left to play from the foul line.

The Royals out-rebounded their opponent 66-29.

St. Andrews was led by Benee Norton who notched 15 points. Brittany Roberts added 10.

Queens will return to the court at the Grady Cole Center on Saturday against King College at 2 p.m.
