Box Score 3 SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Softball team concluded their second day of play today at the Catawba College Tournament. The team went 2-1 collecting wins against Goldey-Beacom College and Winston-Salem State University, and a loss to West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
The early morning game against Goldey-Beacom College featured plenty of fireworks as it was concluded with a walk off home run. Down 4-3 in the seventh inning
Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va., JR Tucker ) stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run homer to end the game in dramatic fashion.
Jennifer Goodman (Centerville, Va., Westfield) earned the 6-4 win after four shutout innings of pitching in relief of
Amanda Rodriguez (Bear Creek, N.C., Chatham Central).
In the third game, Queens defeated Winston-Salem State by the score 6-4. Goodman once again entered the game and earned the win only allowing one run in the final three innings. She replaced
Jessica Scott (Franklin, N.C., Raban Gap Nacoochee) who started the game and put in four strong innings of pitching.
Offensively the Royals were led by
Emma Schultz (Silver Spring, Md., Paint Branch) who concluded the day going 7-10 with one home run and four runs batted in. Overall it was a team effort that allowed Queens to pull out the two victories.
The loss of the day came between to two wins with West Chester University of Pennsylvania defeating Queens 8-2.
Queens currently stands at 6-11 on the year and returns home to face Mars Hill College in a double header this Wednesday at 2 p.m.
