Queens drops two against No. 9 Bears

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team returned to the diamond today to take on the No. 9 ranked Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University in a double header.  In the first game the Royals took the Bears to 10 innings before falling 4-3.  The Royals were unable to get their bats hot in the second game and found themselves in a deep hole falling 17-4 in the second game.

The Royals were led by the stellar pitching of senior Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) who built on her already impressive early season, finishing the first game with only four hits allowed in 10 innings. Dodge was engaged in a pitcher's duel featuring some of the region's best hurlers as she went against Dawon Millwood of Lenoir-Rhyne.

While the Royals' bats remained cold throughout both games, Keeya Turner (Fayetteville, N.C., 71st ) heated up at the end of game one as she finished 2-5.  Despite their struggles on offense the Royals were not without chances to finish the game as they left the bases loaded during the 10th and final inning.

The second game of the double header was characterized by the Royals finding themselves in an 11-run hole before they were able to score four in the fourth inning. However, the Royals were unable to build on their offense as they gave up six runs in the fifth leading to the game being called due to the run rule

The Royals head to Aiken, S.C., this upcoming Sunday to take on USC-Aiken in a doubleheader.
