Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Royals hit the road today for their first away game traveling to face UNC-Pembroke, picking up their first loss of the season, 69-62. Queens University of Charlotte drops to 2-1 on the season with the loss, while the Braves improve to 3-2.
The Royals had a tough night offensively, shooting just 29.7 percent from the floor. Queens led 29-27 at the half due in large part to their swarming defense that has helped them force opponents into turnovers. The Braves committed 13 turnovers in the first half, which Queens converted into 12 points. Queens' defense also held UNC-Pembroke to 34.8 percent shooting.
The Braves improved their shooting in the second half to 50 percent enabling them to regain control of the lead despite Queens' pressure on the defensive end. The Royals forced the Braves into 11 second half turnovers, scoring 14 points. However, the Royals struggled in the half court offensively as they finished the half shooting 32.4 percent.
Queens tied the game at 56-56 in the final five minutes of play thanks to an 8-0 run, but the Braves would follow with a 13-6 surge to seal the victory.
Junior forward
Sarah Myatt (Show Camp, N.C., Southern Alamance) led the Royals this evening with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) added nine points, while
Lacey Singletary (Burlington, N.C., Oak Ridge) scored seven.
The Braves had three players score 13 points each to lead them in the game.
Queens returns to action after the Thanksgiving holiday, when they will travel to play Erskine College on November 27 at 5:30 p.m.
