Royals outscored 4-1 in the second half with Valdosta State

Queens lost 4-1 to the Blazers.

VALDOSTA, Ga. – With the game sitting tied at 0-0 to begin the second half, the Blazers of Valdosta State University scored four goals to the Royals' one taking the nonconference win in the VSU Tri-Conference Challenge. Queens University of Charlotte returns to Charlotte with a 0-2 record while the Blazers begin their season at 2-0.

The first half of this afternoon's game passed without a single score by either team as Queens headed in to the break having taken six shots to Valdosta State's eight.

Valdosta State's Arielle Sabina started the scoring in the second half with a goal from far outside the box on a free kick after a Queens foul.

The Royals did not stay down for long though with a running attack from Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside)Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) found a streaking Wright to tie the match and score the first ever goal against the Blazers. The goal was Wright's second of the year.

Six minutes would pass before the Blazers started their 3-0 run to ending the game at 4-1.

Blakely McClellan scored two of Valdosta State's goals while Rebecca Miller notched one in the final minutes of the half.

The Royals were outshot 9-4 in the second half of play. Megan Hirschy spent the full 90 minutes in goal for Queens collecting five saves. Oliva Mills of Valdosta State tallied four.

After returning to Charlotte, the Royals will hit the road again heading to Catawba College to face the Indians on September 7th at 7 pm.
