LAURINBURG, N.C. – After a first half that ended deadlocked at 0-0, the Royals netted two goals early in the second half to secure a 2-0 conference win over St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Queens University (2-1) opens league play at 1-0, while the Knights fall to 0-3 (1-5 overall) on the year.
The Royals took nine shots to St. Andrews' one in route to the 0-0 score at the break.
Queens found its accuracy in the second half as
Felipe Netto (Salvador, Brazil, Colegio Candido Portinari) passed a ball to
Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) that he fired into the back of the net for the first goal of the game in the 50
th minute. The goal was the first for Chambers this season.
Soon after,
Yannick Fischbach (Dussaldor F, Germany, J.L. Mann) served a ball to
Alvaro Guerra (Valencia, Venezuela, Woodward Academy) that he headed into the net for the 2-0 score.
The Royals outshot their host 20-to-7 this afternoon led by Chambers and
Gersi Cilingiri (Berat, Albania, Wolfson) who booted four apiece.
Matthew Cavallo (Davidson, N.C., East Lincoln) defended the net for Queens collecting two saves as the Knights' keeper, Corey Francis, tallied eight.
Queens will welcome the Limestone College Saints to the Queens Sports Complex on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m.
