Royals women’s tennis earns bid to Conference Carolinas Championship

Queens has another shot for a title after dropping championship match in 2010

SUMTER, S.C.- Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) clinched her match against Noelia Mora of Mount Olive to give Queens the 5-2 victory and advance the Royals to their second consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship. Queens will meet Erskine, who gave Queens their only Conference Carolinas loss of the season, at 1pm at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, N.C.

Mount Olive took two-of-three doubles matches with Queens' second flight of Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) and Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) winning 8-1.

Trailing 2-1, the Royals needed to rebound in singles play. Christina Rustscheff (Toronto, Canada, Bayview Glen), Roberts and Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Texas, Keller) all won their respective matches. The Royals needed one more match to secure the victory and advance to the championship.

Poole went up one set 6-1 and was able to finish off Mora 6-4.

If the Royals are to win over Erskine it will be the program's first tournament championship. Last season Erskine defeated Queens in this same matchup by a score of 5-3. Queens bounced back in the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional, defeating Erskine 5-2.
