Softball drops series to Pfeiffer

Falcons win by scores of 8-0 and 2-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens dropped its first complete Conference Carolinas series to Pfeiffer Saturday afternoon at Park Road Park. The Falcons took game 1 by a score of 8-0 and snuck by the Royals 2-1 in the second. The losses drop Queens to 11-11 on the year and 4-4 in league play while Pfeiffer improves to 11-9 on the year and remains perfect at 6-0 in conference action.
 
Brandy Jester (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central) pitched two complete games, giving her four complete games in three days. Jester gave up 17 hits and struck out eight batters. Queens' offense collected nine hits on the day with Maria Goode (Charlotte, N.C., Providence) and Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) each having two.

Of the eight runs the visiting team posted, two were unearned. The Falcons scored two in the third, one earned and one unearned, to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Melanie Conklin was strong in the circle for Pfeiffer. Goode opened the game with a single and Alisha Waldrop (McDonough, Ga., Luella ) tried to get something going for Queens in the seventh with a double. Conklin gave up two hits and struck out eight.
 
Pfeiffer strung together three hits, including a triple from Hannah Jackson, in the fifth inning to bring in two more runs. The Falcons added three runs in the next inning and tacked the eighth run on in the seventh inning.
 
Jester drops to 6-7 and Conklin improves to 4-3.

Pfeiffer pulled ahead early in the first inning after a Sarah Waylock single scored Conklin.
 
Megan Lathbury (Georgetown, Del., Sussex Central) opened the fourth inning with a two-base knock for Queens. Waldrop moved Stephanie Supcoe (Charleston, W.Va., Charleston Catholic), who came in to run for Lathbury, to third with a sacrifice hit. Two batters later Emma Schultz (Silver Spring, Md., Paint Branch) collected her first multi-base hit of the year with a double to drive in the game-scoring run. The Royals ended the inning with the go-ahead run on base.
 
In the fifth inning Pfeiffer took the lead after Celia Dew reached on an error that scored Conklin.
 
Needing to bring one in to tie and a second to take the win, Goode hit a one-out single and Dodge reached on an error. The winning run was on base. Allison Braswell walked Kaitlyn Cheek (Richmond, Va,, JR Tucker) before being replaced by Conklin. Conklin struck Jester out for the second out of the inning and Lathbury flied out to end the game.
 
Braswell picks up the win to improve to 5-3. Jester drops to 6-8.
 
The Royals out-hit the Falcons 7-5 with Dodge and Conklin turning in the only multi-hit games.
 
Queens is off until Tuesday, March 8 when they travel to Coker. The Royals were to host USC-Aiken on Sunday, March 6, but the games have been cancelled.
