CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Royals returned to the pool for a quad meet hosted by Wingate University which started last night and was completed this afternoon. The women earned three wins defeating Catawba College 210-97, Converse College 200-115 and Wingate 166-149. The men defeated Washington and Lee 201-114 and Catawba 219-94, while falling 174-141 to the Bulldogs.
Of the 17 total events in the meet, Queens won nine on the women's side and seven on the men's. The women also turned in an four NCAA B-cut times. They also set eight new school records. The men turned in four B-cut times, while also setting eight new program records.
The Royals had outstanding performances in their relay races at the meet beginning with the women's performance in the 200-yard free.
Kristin Diemer (Oak Ridge, N.C., Northwest Guilford),
Emily Bozant (Chalmette, La., Cabrini),
Fallon Kelley (Hilton Head, S.C., Hilton Head Island) and
Lillian Gordy (Winston-Salem. N.C., Reagan) swam in at 1:21.23. The men's relay team made up of
John Long (Jacksonville, Fla., Bishop Kenny),
Austin Hughey (Auburn, Ala., Auburn ),
Joe Skuba (Del Rey, Fla., North Broward Prep) and
Kyle House (Lawrenceburg, Ind., East Central ) also set a new record with a time of 1:24.61 in the event. New records were set on both sides in the 400-yard medley relay by Diemer,
Emma Durante (Akron, Ohio, Firestone),
Madeleine Wallmon (Danderyd, Stockholm, Sweden, Viktor Ryderg Gymnasium) and Gordy on the women's team and Hughey,
Niclas Eriksson (Indianapolis, Ind., International School of Indiana), House and Long on the men's team with the men's record also meeting B-cut standards. The men also set a new record with a B-cut time of 1:32.90 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Gordy touched the wall at 5:10.29 meeting the B-cut and setting a new record in the 500-yard freestyle. B-cut times were also turned in at the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.23) and the 400 individual medley (4:33.32) by
Tessa Pena (Apex, N.C., Middle Creek).
On the men's team, House tapped the wall at 1:54.08 in the 200-yard back, while Long swam in at 45.74 in the 100-yard free. Each time met the B-cut criteria for the event. Long also completed a B-cut time in the 50-yard free cutting his time down to 20.76.
The Royals will return to action on November 18 in the Wingate Fall Frenzy.
