Bobcats take match over Royals after scoreless second half

The Royals fell 2-1 to Lees-McRae.

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Royals took five shots in the final 15 minutes of regulation this evening looking to equalize the match with Lees-McRae College coming up short as the Bobcats held on for the 2-1 win. Queens University of Charlotte (2-8) is now 1-6 in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action while Lees-McRae (7-3-1) improves to 4-1 in the league.  

James Galvani scored his first of two goals in the 17th minute of the game curling a ball inside the far post. A little over 10 minutes would pass before senior defender Matthew Gwilt (Mooresville, N.C, Lake Norman ) booted a ball into the net from 35-yards out for a game-tying goal for Queens.

Galvani would strike again a few minutes before the break scoring a ball crossed to him by Luke Staats.

The 2-1 lead would hold for the Bobcats throughout the second half as neither team found luck netting another goal.

Queens outshot the Bobcats 16-to-13 and won five corner kicks to the home teams' four. Goalkeeper Simen Walmann (Nevlunghavn, Norway, Toppidrettsgymnaset)collected seven saves, while Lees-McRae keeper Tyler Gibson notched six saves.

The Royals will return to the Queens Sports Complex for their next game, which is against Mount Olive College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
