Men’s soccer drops match to Brevard

The Royals lost 1-0 to the Tornados.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte dropped a non-conference match this evening to Brevard College by a score of 1-0 at the Queens Sports Complex. With the loss, the Royals fall to 2-6 on the season. The win is the first of the season for the Tornados who are now 1-9-1 on the year.

The Tornados hit early scoring the lone goal of the game in just the third minute of play. Jami Uuttuu rebounded a saved ball from a previous shot tucking it away in the goal for the 1-0 lead.  Little action would follow as the teams only took a combined five shots in the half.

Queens took nine shots in the second half fighting to equalize the game, but came up unlucky. Yannick Fischbach (Dussaldor F, Germany, J.L. Mann) had a good look at the goal in the 50th minute just missing to the right. Another chance came to even the score when Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) sent a ball towards the goal in the 82nd minute that met the crossbar.

The Royals edged Brevard in shots 11-to-10. Queens also won the battle for corner kicks taking four to Brevard's zero. Giancarlo Aristondo (Charlotte, N.C., South Mecklenburg) collected four saves in goal for the Royals, while the Tornados' Pauli Jussila notched three.

Queens returns to the field on Thursday, October 6, to take on Erskine College in a conference match slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
