Swimming defeats Division I Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The men's and women's swim teams at Queens University of Charlotte each picked up wins this today against Division I opponent Gardner Webb University. The win is the first over a Division I program for the women as they defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs 106.5-93.5, and the second this season for the men as they won 123-80.

The women and men each tapped the wall first in all but two events. They also broke a combined total of six school records. 

Kristin Diemer (Oak Ridge, N.C., Northwest Guilford), Emma Durante (Akron, Ohio, Firestone)Madeleine Wallmon (Danderyd, Stockholm, Sweden, Viktor Ryderg Gymnasium) and Fallon Kelley (Hilton Head, S.C., Hilton Head Island) got the Royals started with a first place finish in the 400 medley relay. Tessa Pena (Apex, N.C., Middle Creek) tapped in at 4:38.58 in the 400-yard individual medley. Ellen Cannon (Rock Hill, S.C., South Pointe) and Queens' 400 free relay team completed the broken records on the women's side. Cannon swam in at 2:17.35 in the 200-yard backstroke, while Taylor Davis (Dover, Del., Center Grove),  Wallmon, Kelley and Lillian Gordy (Winston-Salem. N.C., Reagan) teamed up for a time of 3:41.83.

Kyle House (Lawrenceburg, Ind., East Central ) and Niclas Eriksson (Indianapolis, Ind., International School of Indiana) clocked in new records in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard breaststroke. House turned in a time of 1:55.11, while Eriksson put his hand to the wall at 2:10.10.

The Royals are back in the water on Friday against Converse College, Limestone College and Wingate University.
