Women’s soccer falls in double OT with King

The Royals lost 2-1.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Royals faced King College this afternoon in Bristol, Tenn., falling 2-1 to the Tornado in double overtime. With 5.4 seconds left in the second overtime period, King was able to notch a goal for a win. Queens University of Charlotte's record now sits at 6-10-1 overall and 6-4-1 in conference play. The Tornado improve to 6-7-1 on the year and 5-4-1 in the league.

Morgan Shelton of King scored first with 15 seconds left in the first half giving the Tornado a 1-0 lead at the break.

Hope Hartman (Buies Creek, N.C., Homeschool) evened the score in the 87th minute with a shot that went through the keeper's hands and into the net.

With 5.4 seconds it seemed the game would end in a draw, but Shelton struck again with a golden-goal assisted by Heide Steger.

King outshot the Royals 17-12. Queens edged the Tornado in corner kicks with five the King's four. Megan Hirschy (Fort Wayne, Ind., Shattuck-St.Mary's School) collected three saves in the match.

The Royals will return to the field on Saturday, October 29 at Pfeiffer University for their last regular season game. The game is slated to begin at 1 pm.
