Men’s soccer shocks Trojans

The Royals defeated the Trojans 7-0.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Royals (2-6, 3-8) erupted to score seven goals this evening in their win over the Trojans of Mount Olive College (4-3, 5-8). Queens University of Charlotte snapped its seven game skid in high fashion not allowing the Trojans to net a single goal as the game ended with a 7-0 score.   

Yannick Fischbach (Dussaldor F, Germany, J.L. Mann) booted a ball from the left side of the field that soared into the net in the fourth minute of play to get the Royals started. Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) followed with one of his own ten minutes later from the opposite side of the field giving Queens a 2-0 lead. Kevin Anderson (Mooresville, N.C., Mooresville ) and Alvaro Guerra (Valencia, Venezuela, Woodward Academy) would net two additional goals for the Royals before the horn sounded for the break.

The Royals outshot the Trojans 12-5 in the first period.

Twenty minutes of play passed in the second half with little action before the Royals struck again. Matthew Crane (Belmont, N.C., South Point ) popped a ball over his defender to Felipe Netto (Salvador, Brazil, Colegio Candido Portinari) in the box who flicked the ball over Mount Olive's keeper, Kyle Lavender, for a 5-0 lead. Not even two minutes later another goal was scored for Queens by Zach Mellon (Maiden, N.C., Newton-Conover)Julian Mitchell (Jacksonville, Fla., Wolson) served a ball into the box that Lavender bobbled. Mellon took advantage of the opportunity scoring the sixth goal for Queens.

The final goal of the night came from Tylre Reamer (Columbia, Md., Hammond) on a penalty kick.

The Royals outshot the Trojans 20-9. There were a total of 20 offside calls in the match, 16 of them belonging to Queens. Simen Walmann (Nevlunghavn, Norway, Toppidrettsgymnaset) finished with two saves in goal while Lavender notched three.

Queens will return to the field in Belmont, N.C., when they take on Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at 4 pm.
