CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens' women's tennis team couldn't overcome a swarm of nationally-ranked players, as they fell to No.1 Armstrong Atlantic State University (29-0), 5-0, in the semifinals of the NCCA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Royals proved to be outmatched early, as they fell behind 3-0 at the conclusion of doubles action. While the Royals only took two sets from the Lady Pirates in flights one and two, Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Texas, Keller) and Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) played a competitive match against No. 21 Kathleen Henry and Tina Ronel in the third flight before falling 8-4.
Singles produced the same result, as Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) fell 6-0 and 6-0 to No. 4 Alida Muller-Wehlau in the second flight, while Blakey lost 6-0 and 6-2 to No. 41 Kathleen Henry.
While the Royals ride comes to an end here, Armstrong Atlantic moves on to face Francis Marion (17-5) Saturday at 2 p.m., with the winner advancing to the 16-team field in the NCAA DII Women's Tennis Championship.
