CHARLOTTE, N.C. — No. 40 Queens University of Charlotte won its Conference Carolinas women's tennis match at Limestone College, 6-3, on Thursday. The Royals improve to 8-0 (13-0) in conference play while the Saints fall to 0-6 (1-13).
Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) fought off Jimen Munoz Quiroga in the first flight with a 6-4, 7-5 win to get the Royals started. Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) and Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) couldn't save face at the two and three flights, falling 7-5, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) respectively. Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast), Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG), and Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Tex., Keller) breezed through the remaining flights, conceding just two sets between the trio to complete singles competition.
The Royals continued to best the Saints during doubles action – winning two of the three matches. Accounting for Queens' wins were the two and three flights composed of Williams and Engleberth at the two and Mileva and Hewit Hawn (Naples, Fla., Community School of Naples) at the three.
The Royals are back in action April 5th when they travel to Mount Olive for a 12:00 p.m. match.
