CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens University of Charlotte is proud to announce
Tanya Zeferjahn (Hesperia, Calif., Hesperia High School) as the recipient of the InterCon Female Student-Athlete of the Month award for the month of the February.
Zeferjahn got off to a quick start in February; running for an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and school record with a 4:53.33 mile at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York on February 6th.
Continuing to climb the ranks as one of the preeminent runners in the nation, Zeferjahn competed at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 27th. Contending with the top talent in the country, she fought her way through the 3,000 meters in 9:50.88 for a 10th-place finish.
Royals track and field Head Coach Scott Simmons commented on Zeferjahn's season-long success.
"Tanya's work ethic and associated success have not only served to inspire the development of her teammates on the women's track team, but she has also used her influence to help young girls in the Charlotte area with her. She exemplifies Queens' highest ideal of what a student-athlete should be."
