Women's tennis snatches two wins over the weekend

The Royals next match is March 6th against Erskine College.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team picked up two wins over the weekend to continue their undefeated season. The Royals now have a record of 9-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play after defeating Barton College 9-0 on Saturday and Belmont Abbey College 9-0 on Sunday. Barton falls to 0-5 and Belmont Abbey falls to 0-2 on the season after meeting up with Queens.

On Saturday afternoon, the Royals traveled to Wilson, N.C. for their match with the Bulldogs of Barton College. Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) continued her winning streak at the number one spot downing her opponent in two sets (6-1, 6-3). Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) at the number two spot and Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Tex., Keller) at the number five didn't allow their competition to score a single point winning 6-0 in each set. The Bulldogs best singles play came from Sarah Dice in the sixth spot against Hewit Hawn (Naples, Fla., Community School of Naples). Hawn held off Dice in both sets though winning by scores of 6-4 in each of two sets.

Mileva and Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) came up against tough competion in doubles play but the Royals took control of the game to win 8-6.

On Sunday afternoon, Queens played host to the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders in a make-up match that had been rescheduled twice due to bad weather conditions. The Crusaders proved to be no match for the Royals losing nearly every set 6-0. There were only four singles and two doubles games played in the match due to an incomplete Belmont Abbey roster.

The Royals are back in action against Erskine College on March 6th at 11:00 a.m.
