Daniel Bailey wins the InterCon male student-athlete of the month

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens University of Charlotte is proud to announce Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) as the recipient of the InterCon Male Student-Athlete of the Month award for the month of the January.

The men's basketball team finished the month with a record of 4-7 overall and 4-5 in Conference Carolinas action. Bailey stepped up to help lead his team against tough competition throughout the month.

Bailey averaged 20.58 points through the month, including a stretch when he scored 32-plus points four times in five games. He also worked the defensive side of the court, averaging 8.25 rebounds, 1.08 blocks, and 1.58 steals. Shooting 57% from the field, 64.5% from deep, Bailey led Queens to key conference wins over ninth-ranked Limestone and 10th-ranked Belmont Abbey.

Head Coach Wes Long had this to say about his player:

"Daniel Bailey is the caliber basketball player we must sign at Queens in order to achieve the dreams we want for this program, but more importantly, he is a top-caliber person and that makes me proud to be his coach. I have never had a second-thought about how “DB” carries himself off the court, on-campus, and in the community. He is a respectful young man, who is both caring and conscientious in nature.

He is respected by all of his teammates, and represents himself, his family, his church, and our basketball program with class. He has now registered back-to-back semesters of a 3.0 or better in the classroom, including this past Fall when earned a 3.0.

His approach to being a student-athlete here at Queens gives me a ton of substance to fall back on as I recruit and coach young men. The manner in which Dan lives allows me to say that our best player is also one of our top students, as well as a model citizen. That combination makes me awful proud to be his basketball coach."

Members of the sports information office are catching up Bailey and will have the Q & A posted shortly.
