Royals blank Bears

Queens defeated the Bears 9-0.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team kicked off their spring season much like they ended their fall season. The Royals defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 9-0 in a home match that was moved to Freedom Park because of the inclement weather conditions. With the win, Queens improves to 6-0 on the season.

In singles play, Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) led the attack in the number one spot winning her games against Kelsey Lowe with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) followed suit downing her opponent winning 6-1 and 6-2. At the three spot Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) blanked her competition winning 6-0 in both games. Morgan Roberts also won both of her games (6-1, 6-0). The final two singles matches were won by the Royals due to forfeit.

Mileva and Roberts paired up at the number one spot in doubles to win 8-0. Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG) and Williams also won their game 8-1.

The Royals are back in action Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
