CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The women's tennis team defeated Johnson C. Smith University and USC-Lancaster over the weekend by scores of 9-0 and 5-0 respectively. Queens University of Charlotte is 2-0 to start the season.
The Royals were clearly the favorite to win in the match against the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith on Friday, September 25. Freshman
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) played in the number one spot in singles play and blanked her opponent winning both sets 6-0. Fellow freshmen
Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG) and
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) played the two and three spots respectively. They won their matches in only two sets of play also. the Royals won all of the doubles matches played for the day (8-1, 8-0, 8-1).
On Saturday, September 26, Queens hosted the USC-Lancaster Lancers. The Lancers didn't have complete roster so some of the games didn't get played on the day. Roberts started her team off in singles play again winning with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Williams and
Hewit Hawn (Naples, Fla., Community School of Naples) defeated their opponents as well. Engelberth's game was not finished and
Elena Mileva's (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) game was not played. Engelberth and Mileva paired up to defeat the Lancers opponents 8-1, while Roberts and Blakey also defeated their competition 8-1.
The Royals are back in action October 2nd against Bluefield College at 4:00 pm.
