UNC-Pembroke outshoots Queens

The Royals fell 8-1 against the Braves.

PEMBROKE, N.C.  – The Royals were out shot by the Braves in an away game at Varsity Grounds taking eight shots compared to UNC-Pembroke's 37. Queens University of Charlotte fell 8-1 in the contest making them 2-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play. UNC-P improved to 4-1 with the home win.

The Braves scored four goals in each half of play agains the Royals. Their depth and aggressive play proved to give Queens a hard time on the field. Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside)scored the only goal for Queens. With a ball passed in to space by Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor), Wright took on the Braves goalie and found the back of the net in the 59th minute of play. The goal was Wright's eighth goal of the season.

Goalie Kristen Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run )had 11 saves on the night. Wright led in shots taken by the Royals with three while five others had one shot a piece.

UNC-P player Ashley Anctil rallied off not only her first collegiate goal, but the second hat trick of the season for the Lady Braves. Freshman Anna Svensson rallied the front line early, scoring in the first eight minutes of play for her fifth goal of the season. Also putting points on the board was junior Sam Dunn with a pair. Sophomores Britney Joiner and Emily DesJarlais each took home one apiece. 

Queens is back in action on Saturday against Pfeiffer University at 2:00 p.m. in a home game at the Queens Sports Complex.
