CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens women's tennis picked up its first win of the spring season with a 5-4 Conference Carolinas victory over Barton College. Queens improves to 4-7 for the year with the win and Barton drops to 1-8 since February.
The match was the first in over two weeks for the Royals, who played last on March 6 against Lees-McRae.
Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School), Hewitt Hawn (Naples, Fla., Community School of Naples) and Amanda O'Neal (Evans, Ga., Greenbrier) all picked up wins in singles action. Mileva and O'Neal won in straight sets, while Hawn came back from a 4-6 first set, won the second 6-4 and blanked Summer Chase 6-0 in the rubber match to earn the point for Queens.
The doubles pairs of Mileva and Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Tex., Keller) and Katherine Winship (Charlotte, N.C., Dominion Christian ) and Hawn each defeated their opposition by sound scores of 8-4 and 8-3.
Queens plays again on March 25 against Limestone.
