Men’s soccer wins 3-0 over Brevard

Early goal and two late goals give Queens the win

CHARLOTTE, N.C- Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) scored his second goal of the season just over three minutes into the nonconference men's soccer game against Brevard to lift the Royals over the Tornados by a score of 3-0.

The Royals (4-4-1/1-3-1) opened the game strong with convincing runs down the flanks and crisp passing between the attacking players. Michael Lum (Trussville, Ala., Hewitt Trussville ) fed a ball to Chambers midway between the six-yard box and the 18 and Chambers dribbled beating the keeper and scoring.

Brevard (1-11/0-10 SAC) turned around and controlled the ball in the Royals defensive end for a solid portion of the first half. The Tornado offense earned two corner kicks while on the attack.

Queens outshot the visitors 6-0 in the first stanza and had one corner kick.

The second half passed with just one shot in the first 30 minutes. Brevard was able to take four corners, but could not convert them.

The Royals turned up the offense in the last 15 minutes, scoring two goals. The first was a picture perfect header finish by Tyler Miller (Yadkinville, N.C., Starmount ) with the perfectly placed cross coming from Joshua Dowd (Houston, Texas, James E. Taylor). Jonathan Grajeda (Orange County, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury ) added goals number three by pulling the keeper, Jack Shaw, off his line and scoring on a long, low shot.

Queens outshot Brevard 11-3 with Chambers leading the team with four. Ian Townson had two of the three Brevard shots. Shaw made two saves in the game and Queens keeper Chris Raines (Aurora, Colo., Cherokee Trail) had just one.

The Royals host Mount Olive College on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 4:30pm.
